β οΈ Pitch is ours from midday β the site has no waiting area, so do NOT arrive before 12:00. 13:30 gives comfortable slack. Watch for Tollgate Farm's arrival-info email (sent ~5 days before we travel).
St Agnes, Wheal Coates & Chapel Porth
- Catch the 87 bus from Perran Sands Entrance towards St Agnes
- Explore St Agnes village
- Walk to Wheal Coates β the old tin-mine buildings on the cliffs (free!)
- Continue to Chapel Porth if everyone's happy walking
- Picnic with the coastal views

Newquay Zoo & beaches
- Bus 87 from Perran Sands Entrance straight to Newquay
- Morning at Newquay Zoo β take our time looking around
- Lunch or picnic
- Explore Newquay town & harbour
- Afternoon at Towan Beach or Fistral Beach
- Ice cream / fish & chips before the bus home

Carbis Bay & St Ives
- Public transport towards St Ives β our train & coast day
- Time at Carbis Bay
- Coastal walk towards St Ives if everyone's happy
- Explore St Ives Harbour
- Porthminster or Porthmeor Beach
- Wander the little streets β pasties & ice cream
Trains run every ~30 min β no stress if one is missed.
Tintagel Castle βοΈ
- Drive to Tintagel early β our big castle adventure day
- Explore Tintagel Castle and the footbridge
- Cliffs & viewpoints (hold little hands!)
- Down to Tintagel Haven
- If the tide is right β explore around Merlin's Cave π§
- Picnic or eat in Tintagel village
The 11:00 slot is booked β build in buffer, August traffic on the A39 is slow. For Merlin's Cave, check the tide times β the cave is only reachable around low tide.
Minack Theatre & Porthcurno
- Drive early to Porthcurno
- Visit the Minack Theatre & gardens β our slot is 11:00 (theatre-and-garden visit, not a show)
- Explore the auditorium β spectacular views over the sea
- See the exhibition on how Rowena Cade built the theatre
- Lunch or picnic
- Walk down to Porthcurno Beach for the afternoon
- Meet the other family at the Minack or on the beach
- Back to Tollgate Farm for our final evening π
The 11:00 slot is booked β it's the longest drive of the week, leave on time!
Pack up & home π
- Big camp breakfast, tents down (kids on sleeping-bag duty!)
- One last look at the sea π
- Drive home with plenty of stops
10:30 checkout is the site's rule, not a suggestion β start packing by 08:30. Sunday traffic home is usually kinder than Saturday.

All three paid attractions were booked together by Techla (Blue Light Card + family ticket savings applied πͺ). Each family owes Β£125.65. Everything else on the trip is free apart from bus fares, parking and food.
βΊ Campsite booking
Tollgate Farm, Mon 17 β Sun 23 Aug (6 nights), two pitches booked together: ours ref 31138 (tent 4Γ6, Β£336.00 total) and Techla & Bob's ref 31139. Deposit Β£134.40 paid β Β£201.60 to pay on arrival at check-in. Consecutive bookings, so the pitches should be side by side. Pitch available from midday (no early arrivals β there's no waiting area); checkout by 10:30 on the Sunday.
π‘ Money-saving notes
- Bus days: adult singles are capped (~Β£3); for 4 adults + 3 kids reckon roughly Β£25β35 return in total β check kids' fares with the driver, and compare with just driving (our car takes all 7)
- St Ives: park at St Erth and take the branch train β cheaper and calmer than St Ives parking
- Tintagel: Visitor Centre car park ~60p/h; council car park free after 4pm
- Minack car park is free during our theatre visit
- Cheap supermarkets: Aldi Bodmin (Tollgate Rd, off the A30 β arrival-day big shop) and in Newquay Aldi (Cliff Rd, by Towan Beach) + Lidl (Treloggan Rd) β ~20 min from camp for mid-week top-ups
- Cheap eats: Wetherspoons in Perranporth (The Green Parrot β walkable from camp!) and Newquay (The Towan Blystra), pasty bakeries everywhere, picnics from the Perranporth supermarkets
- Saturday: park at Treen (Β£2/2 h) instead of Porthcurno (Β£4.80) and dinner at the Logan Rock Inn next door
